In the heart of our city is a large red light area. Women are forced into the flesh trade not by choice but because of poverty.

Love Calcutta Arts has arisen out of a desire to bring freedom to young girls who would otherwise be at risk of abuse. After generations of this lifestyle the cycle is broken. As well as providing the girls with economic freedom, w e also endeavour to rebuild their sense of dignity and selfworth.

The girls are trained in bookbinding, screen printing, and embroidery, using locally available handmade papers, beads and sequins. Each book, card and bag has been carefully put together by hand, utilising
traditional skills that have been passed on through the generations. The final cutting of each book is outsourced within the local community, that therefore benefits from your purchase.

Any profit made goes directly back into the business, giving the girls a chance in life that they otherwise wouldn’t have.
